Today I got to go to the doctor for a surprise visit... This being my first pregnancy and everything happening to me is completely foreign, I naturally call or ask my doctor about everything! This time my question set some concern and they had me come in a week after my last visit.
{FYI, everything is fine, I repeat I am ok! The baby is great and if the tests come back negative, this will have just been a great excuse to hear my baby's heartbeat again.}
The first time we heard our growing baby's heart thump we were over-joyed but mostly relieved that life was truly growing inside me. However, today was a little different for me. Today, being that it was a spontaneous appointment, I wasn't expecting to hear the heartbeat and I definitely wasn't expecting to grow emotional the more I heard it! Sweet Anita {Dr. Pearson's right hand nurse} allowed me to record it and as I drove home I just played it on a loop, praising God for this growing, living blessing in my womb! So in case you were wondering what all the fuss is about, here is our baby's heartbeat! Click the link below to hear it.
So in case you haven't heard {or you're just plain curious about the details}...WE'RE PREGNANT! So after 11 1/2 years of courting & almost 6 years of marriage, God has decided that NOW is the time for us to take the next step in our life together. So before I get started on all the gushy details on how we told our nearest and dearest here is the breakdown...
::I am currently 13 weeks pregnant.
::We are due sometime between December 27th and January 4th.
::The baby is the size of a lemon and is 3 inches and 1.5 ounces.
::Jake swears its a girl... but I have not even one motherly instinct on what the sex might be.
::I took my first positive pregnancy test on April 26th.
::I took my 2nd & 3rd positive pregnancy test on the very same day.
::I took my 4th, 5th, 6th and yes my 7th positive pregnancy test throughout the following week.
::Yes, we were trying! Just didn't think it would happen so fast!
::So far, no major morning sickness...only queasy stomach and dead tired {which praise God, is almost gone now that we are at the end of the first trimester!}
::We have seen and heard the heartbeat of our little growing one...and we are in disbelief that such a small thing can have such a strong beautiful rhythm.
Now on with the good stuff...
That morning I eargerly woke up and took my first test, walked away thinking there is no possible way it could be positive...but to my surprise a faint second line began to appear. Not trusting the 99 cent store test {and really can you blame me} I quickly grabbed a name brand test to confirm. And almost immediately a faint second line began to show. Needing to meet my gym buddy, Bethany at the gym I ran out the door, stopping at Ralph's to buy a "no brainer" test {the one that says PREGNANT or NOT PREGNANT}. At this point I was in disbelief that it could really be true. Wanting nothing more than to tell Bethany, I held in my secret, DYING to tell someone, anyone! After the gym, I ran to Grace Book Shack to buy Jake 2 Christian books of parenting...here is where I caved...the store clerk was the first person to know I was pregnant...yes, even before Jake.
At home, Jake has discovered 2 test wrappers in the trash and assumes I'm pregnant. When I get home and rush to the bathroom to take my 3rd test, he quietly holds in his excitement. Knowing my actions look suspicious, I decide to ask Jake to lunch and proceed to tell him that the tests were negative and I think my period is coming.
Flashforward to a very sad and deflated Jake at CPK...our lunch arrives and I offer to pray...
Me: "Dear God....*stumble on my words*....thank you for this day...*stumble some more*...THANK YOU FOR THIS BABY IN MY BELLY..."
Jake opened his eyes wide, like a little boy on Christmas
Jake: "but you said it was negative..."
Me: "I lied! I'm sorry, but you were on to me!"
And with that I gave him his gift to start our Christian library on parenting, a heartfelt note and of course, the positive test!

Conviently, Mother's Day was around the corner, we rushed off to Tiffany's and bought our moms heart necklaces and engraved "Grandma" for my mom Charli and "Bubby" for Jake's mom Mary {it's Jewish for grandma}. Since I am a planner, I had planned this reveal awhile ago...but never thought it would be so perfect to fall on Mother's day!

Below are the videos of their reveals...they are priceless! Here is my mom's...
Yes, I cry every time I watch that!! Now here is Jake's mom...I love that Paul {Jake's dad or Papa Paul as we like to call him now} is in the frame and goes from "oh, I'm so glad she likes her necklace..." to "oh, I get what's going on now!" And to make the video even better, Jessie can be heard saying "what, what?!" obviously knowing something important is happening and wanting to be let in on the secret. I love video!
After that we quickly told our closest friends, family and coworkers. At the salon where I work, I am the 4th pregnant girl so if you come visit me...beware, it's in the water!
I think I have made this post long enough, more to come later! But before I go, I want to thank God for this child being knit together in my womb, being fearfully nad wonderfully made {Psalm 139:13}...He is so good to bless us with our first child and to Him be all the glory, forever and ever! --Alexa
