Mother's Intuition
Here are a few quick but fun facts...
=I am now 16 weeks pregnant.
=Our baby is the size of an avocado, measuring in at 4 to 5 inches long and weighing an impressive 3-5 oz.
=Our baby can apparently hear us now and see light...meaning its ears and eyes are in the right place.
=Its legs and arms are proportionate to the rest of the body. However, its head...not so much.
=I have started to feel a light fluttering, but it is super soft and I have to concentrate really hard to differentiate between the baby moving and my normal stomach noises.
=I can not get enough of chewy fruity candies...Hi-Chews, Starbursts, Mambas...YUM!
=I am begin to show more like a early preggers and less like a fatty.
=We are having a BOY!
Yes, you read that right! At my 12 week doctors check-up Dr. P was late to our appointment because he was busy giving birth to a new baby {how dare he, right?} thus not having time to do my 12 week ultrasound. However, I got to hear the heartbeat and was reassured that I had a healthy baby growing inside me, I still feared that maybe our baby had a lack of limbs or maybe even a surplus. So we decided to wait a few weeks and go to an elective ultrasound clinic. And here is what we got to see... {Beware at this stage in the pregnancy the baby looks a bit like an alien...but a really freakin' cute alien!}
[caption id="attachment_135" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Our baby cuddling up!"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_136" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Baby yawning"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_137" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Waving and showing off all 4 limbs!"][/caption]
Not only did we get to see that the baby growing inside me had all 4 limbs, but it had reflects and moved to all the poking {OUCH!} the ultrasound tech was doing. It was amazing! Here was this little thing {the size of a lemon that week} moving and growing inside me! And then the lady proceeded to tell us we are having a girl. Pointing out at all the female parts and different angles. Jake, having felt that was the sex, was ecstatic! Me...I was doubtful. I kept asking the lady, "what's the chance of you being wrong," which she'd reply with, "I'm not. I'm 100% sure it's a girl. But you can come back in 2 weeks and comfirm." And of course, we did.
Now if you had asked me if we knew the sex of the baby, my reply would go something like this..."Well, the ultrasound tech said we're having a girl, and I know she does this everyday, all day long, but you never know. So we will see." and the response usually was, "just embrace it, she's probably right." Meanwhile, I have been guarding myself from getting too excited for a girl and also looking at some of the little men in my life thinking how much fun boys can be.
Fast forward to today... 2 weeks and still doubting the gender prediction. The confirmation appointment went something like this...
Ultrasound tech: "Oh you're definetly having a boy...what did I say last time?"
Us: "100% sure, GIRL"
U/S Tech: "Well it's a boy...I thought so last time..."
Us: "mmmmm....ok....."
Me: "I told you so! I knew something would grow!"
So here's the proof... the money shot...
[caption id="attachment_139" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="see the triangular dots...you know what that is..."][/caption]
And we got a peek at our growing BOY!...
[caption id="attachment_147" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Still a little alien-like...but a boy alien!"][/caption]
So I guess the whole mother's intuition thing is real. I just had this gut feeling that it wasn't a girl. So I wasn't shocked but immediately started thinking names and nursery colors. Jake, having believed it to be a girl was slightly disappointed but when I made mention of vans, converse and guns, he got even more excited with the prospect of having a little mini-me.
Here's our first baby purchase made at 5 weeks pregnant... FATHER like SON!
[caption id="attachment_142" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Seriously...we couldn't resist...they were too cute!"][/caption]
And to get an idea of just how ridiculously cute and tiny they are...
[caption id="attachment_144" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="really cute right?"][/caption]
To wrap things up, next week we go in for our next check-up and tomorrow I get to have my first blood work done {Bleh}. And now I am embracing my future as a mom {MOM?!} of a son that I hope grows up to be the gentleman and Godly man just like his father. I pray that he finds a God fearing woman that loves the Lord like I pray he will, so he can then follow his dad's great example of a loving and compassionate husband. In the last 4 months I have fallen more in love with my hubby because he has taken on a more emotional, tired and ever growing wife with a joy and desire that is a true gift from the Lord. So here's to toy guns, dinosaurs, trucks, board shorts, vans, and lots and lots of faux-hawks!!
