What's in a name
As many of you know, Jake and I are high school sweethearts. We met when I was 14 and he was 16. I was immediately attracted to him, his sweet personality and well, his car. {I walked everywhere!} By the next year we were secretly talking marriage and our future. We didn't want to sound foolish to those skeptics, so we kept it to ourselves. On dates we would dream up our life and talk about the kids we would someday have together. We would even go as far as to talk about names. Now here we are 16.5 weeks pregnant and picking names out for real.
If you read our last blog, you know we were told we were having a girl, but it changed and we are having a BOY! The girl name was easy...it had been thought up long ago and simply stuck. Boy names on the other hand were a bit more difficult. I had a list going with a few favorites and when the ultrasound tech told us our first born would be a son, my favorite emerged. I turned to Jake and told him the name that just had to be our sons name {which, thankfully was one of his favorites too} and it was settled. Then came middle name troubles...this part wasn't so easy. But with lots of internet searching and much discussion {or shall we call it "vetoes"} we had named our son.
Curious?

Here are some reasons we fell in love with his name...
Wyatt {pronounced WY-ut} is of Old English origin, and the meaning is "little warrior" or "war strength". Jake especially liked it because of the Wild West Sheriff Wyatt Earp {boys?!}
Asher {pronounced ASH-er} is of Hebrew origin {fitting since Jake is half Jewish} and the meaning is "happy". It got that meaning from the bible in Genesis 30:13 When Leah {the mother of Asher} said, "Happy am I! For women will call me happy." So she named him Asher. To make Asher an even cooler name, he is the 8th son of Jacob and was promised a life blessed in abundance. {As for Asher, his food shall be rich, And he will yield royal dainties. --Genesis 49:20}.
Now as I hold my ever growing belly {pictures to come} I feel even closer to my happy little warrior. I feel at peace being able to pray for him by name, that my Wyatt Asher would grow bigger and be ready to brave the real world. That his name that Jake and I gave him would be written in the book of life. {Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. --Malachi 3:16}
