Wyatt Asher

Wyatt Asher Brodsky is here! I know that's old news to, well probably all of you, but since I haven't posted since I was in labor and now have an almost 3 month old, I thought I'd make my blogging come back! So here's the quick labor & delivery stats for those curious. I had so many blog dreams to write down every detail, but let's face it, I've been a little busy learning how to be a mom and still have life go on around us! Although I haven't blogged all the details, I have documented practically every day of his life thus far with pictures and videos, so beware for a major photo post coming in the very near future!

::FUN FACTS::

::Name: Wyatt Asher Brodsky

::Born: December 31st, 2010 at 12:53 pm.

::Measurements: 6 pounds 12 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long.

::I was in labor {not include all the stop and go "warm up" labor I had for days!!!} for 23 hours.

::Pushed for about an hour.

::Went drug free! Yep you read that correctly, I just said no to drugs :). Call it crazy, but I dug my heals in stubbornly determined to experience it naturally and prove all the people who told me I couldn't do it wrong.

::Went to the hospital at 12:30 am on the 31st, and was almost 7 cm dialted. Was told I would have the baby some time early that morning....liars.

::Was very sleepy, having been up the night before with false labor contractions, so I slept between contractions.

::Total awake time {not counting the little 1-2 minute cat naps I got between contractions}...32 hours.

::Got stuck at 9 cm for most the morning. Apparently Wyatt thought it would be nice to bring my cervix with him as he descended into the birth canal since he was face up.

::To speed things up for us, good ol' Dr. P broke my water...when that didn't work he had me walking around doing pelvic tilts... When that didn't work, he told me it's pitocin time, or I would have to have a cesarian. For those who aren't sure what pitocin is, it is something administered through an IV that brings on very strong contractions to soften the cervix. Since I was at 9 cm and only needed to get to 10 to push, he told me I would probably only be on it for an hour at most and a very light dose... But when that didn't work it kept getting cranked up, for 3 hours.

::Side note: I always said if I had to have pitocin I would have an epidural in a heart beat... Sadly I was too far along to have one. And for those mommy-to-be's out there reading this, if you have to be induced and go from 0-10 on pitocin, take the drugs! I repeat, TAKE THE DRUGS!!! That was the worst pain I've ever felt and I can still remember the quivering contractions they brought on.

::By this time I didn't think I had the strength in me to continue, but with God's amazing grace I was able to persevere with my amazing husband holding my hand {more like supplying his hand for me to squeeze :)} and my mom to coach me through breathing and cheering me on.

::But when the pitocin was still not working, God's perfect provision supplied us with a very abrupt nurse who ended up pushing my cervix back and turning Wyatt face down {into the correct birthing position} during a contraction and a practice push. Little did we know, Susan, our nurse was trained as a midwife in Scotland and was able to use her skills on me, saving me from a C-section.

::Jake also having had no sleep or food, became faint, and had to sit down. God's amazingness shone once again when our birth class teacher/doula and good friend of the family was able to step in and take my side as Jake downed some juice and fruit. He very quickly returned and was able to actually watch our son come into this world as he cheered me on, and feed me lots of ice chips!

::The labor part was a blur, but here are the things I do remember...

--Jake singing to me "Psalm 139" by Sons of Korah to relax me.

--the searing back labor pains...:/

--the nurses cheering when Dr.P said it was go time {they had all thought I was getting a cesarian, but were rooting for me since I obviously didn't want one}

--after my water broke, I was shocked by how quickly my belly disappeared!

--bossing my mom and hubby to go chew gum to rid themselves of stale breath ;).

--crying when they said I could push and it hit me that in moments we were going to have a real life baby.

--while pushing, Peggy our doula, told me I wasn't getting oxygen to the baby, and if I didn't breath deeply we would both go into stress and I would need an emergency C-section. It was my first active mommy moment when I needed to care for Wyatt and put his needs first, regardless of how hard it was.

-- asking for lunch immediately after he was born.

-- when they placed him on my belly my first thoughts were that he had the most perfect cone head I had ever seen and that he had my dimpled chin.

--Jake's glowing grin as he held our little boy, the moment he became a father.

::Labor and delivery was long, but I would do it all over in a heart beat if I had to. The overflowing love I felt immediately for this little man surpassed all the pain and discomfort.

::This New Year's Eve was a memorable one even though we did not stay up until 12....

::Wyatt was slightly jaundice but other than that super healthy.

::We went home 2 days later and he weighed just barely 6 pounds. But by his 2 week check up had surpassed his birth weight by 7 ounces.

Here are a few picture taken in his first few days alive... More to come I promise!!!

[caption id="attachment_457" align="aligncenter" width="224" caption="{first faux-hawk....the hairstylist in me couldn't resist!"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_458" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="{our first night home}"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_460" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="{First full day at home...we took a lot of pictures!}"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_462" align="aligncenter" width="224" caption="{our first walk around the block...we were getting a bit stir crazy}"][/caption]

And there's a lot more were these came from....consider yourself warned!

PS....I hope this blog satisfied those few that were "gently reminding" me to get back to it...

Thank you so much for posting this! I was just wondering yesterday if you'd ever have the time to blog again - and I'm so glad that you did - because reading about your experience gives me hope for what I'll be going through in less than a month. Can't wait for play dates with our little ones!
